Advanced Horseback Riding 08 Syllabus
The UNC course fee is $585.00 per semester with a deposit of $270.00 due on the January 15th, 2010. Classes start on January 18th, 2010. Lessons are held at Quail Roost Farm which is about 40min from UNC Chapel Hill.
The first day of class meets on campus to discuss course details and to set up car pools in each class, as we do not provide transportation for students. The course time listed includes travel time to and from the farm and typically meet twice a week for one hour. The Friday classes meet once per week for two hours.
Requirements
The only additional fees will be the purchase of an ASTM/SEI approved helmet and proper foot ware. There is a tack shop in Raleigh, Triangle Horse Sports, which has a wide selection of English riding apparel.
There is no required text for this course, but we supply a list of recommended text as well as Internet site options. Students keep a daily journal of their lessons that is turned in at the end of the semester, and then returned to the student. The classes are well-structured lessons and expose the students to several aspects of Hunt Seat Riding/Equitation. Students also learn horsemanship basics and how to properly care for their horse and equipment. Quail Roost Farm has several school horses to work with, varying in age, size, and ability. Students will gain valuable skills through weekly riding as well as riding several different types of horses. For those days when the weather does not allow for riding outside, we will have a lecture in the barn where students can broaden their knowledge of equine care, or we have several educational videos from which to choose.
UNC-PE at Quail Roost Farm is both fun and educational. Come ride with us next semester!
